He lost his relationship with his father, but eventually found someone better

Joseph’s Story

My name is Josef and I would like to talk to you about my life. My mom believes in God and we went to church with her when we were children. So I already knew about God.

But my dad was the complete opposite. He was an alcoholic and gambler. It affected my childhood and my family of course. It was really difficult – he often spent the whole family budget for a month. He often came home drunk and hurt my mom both physically and psychologically. I remember one situation when he came back home in the evening. He was drunk. My mom locked herself in the kitchen with us, but he broke the door and he pulled out a large knife and began waving it. He threatened to cut us all. We were scared and didn’t know what to do. But then he started to apologise and felt sorry for himself. It was a moment when we realized that we could no longer live like this. The next day my mom ran away with us to our grandmothers where I spent the rest of my childhood. My parents divorced after that. 

I remember missing my father 

but because my mom had been a believer and we went to church with her I accepted God as my father. I learned to know Him even though I didn’t understand many things. I have started to believe what I read in the Bible is the truth and started to get to know Jesus and His love. At the same time also my inadequacy and sinfulness. I began to perceive everything that was wrong with my life.

I remember praying one evening and begging Jesus to forgive my sins and all the bad things I have done in my life. I wanted to follow him because also thanks to the Bible I know that He loves us. That He loves me and that He cares about me. I said to myself that if someone loves me so much, I want to love Him back. I decided I wanted to follow him and I wanted to live life with Him. I was about 13 years old at the time.

The next important thing was the moment when I started to speak to Jesus and I started to pray. I talked to him like a friend and I told him everything about my life. I asked him for help and advice. He started talking to me and started leading me and started changing my life.

Jesus has changed my whole life. Thanks to Him I managed things that I thought were impossible. He has helped me through many difficult times in my life. I successfully finished school, I have a good job, a great family and an amazing wife. I believe that God acted in everything.

Life is not always easy, but the main thing is that I am not alone. I know that Jesus is always with me and helps me to see life from a different point of view.

He gives me joy, peace, love and teaches me how to live. I think life with Jesus is the best thing we can have. I also think that Christianity is mainly about a relationship with Him. It can’t be explained, it’s something a man has to experience.
